>>PLP- R/W

 1.Characteristics
  1. Implement PLP-R/W in Key Stage 1:
Our school is very happy to implement the programme to enhance the learning and teaching of English. The PLP-R/W is based on the rationale that reading and writing are fundamental to learning a language. It promotes various reading and writing strategies, supports setting up the language rich environment and helps us develop students’ interest in learning English. Besides, the English room where students have the PLP-R/W lessons was recently renovated and refurbished with familiar characters from the programme big books.

  2. School-based Phonics Programme:
We have developed a school-based phonics programme that is supported by the PLP-R/W and is taught as a separate lesson in P.1 – P.3 each week. We aim at helping students acquire the crucial skills which will facilitate their life-long learning.
  3. School-based Writing Programme:
20 school-based writing packages with different text types were developed for P. 4 and P.5 students. Graphic organizers such as story maps, mind maps which help students organize their ideas were adopted to develop their writing skills.
  4. Reading Workshops:
are selected for conducting reading workshops in Key Stage 2. Since it is very important to develop the students’ reading skills such as inferening, referencing, reading workshops are implemented through different readers such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, We are different, etc.
  5. Home Reading Programme:
The programme aims at building students’ reading interest and habits. Reading is encouraged by sufficient readers (both fiction and non-fiction) displayed in the classroom. Readers are easy to reach and be borrowed. Students are eager to borrow interesting books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Spiderman, Frozen, Charlie and Lola series every week.
  6. Interview Training:
P.5 and P.6 students have small group interviews in the English Room with the NET. Through an authentic situation, students can freely express themselves in English and practise their listening and speaking skills as well
  7. Variety of activities:
Different English activities are conducted to increase the students’ interests and exposure to English, such as Halloween Fun Day, Drama, English Corner, English Club, Riddle Day, English Week, Fun Station…
